Thứ Hai, 11 tháng 5, 2009 | | 0 nhận xét

Birkhäuser Basel; 1 edition (August 26, 2005) | 2007-10-30 | ISBN: 3764371501 | 160 pages | PDF | 22 Mb

As a building material, precast concrete allows a wide range of sculptural forms and design options. By treating the surface in various ways, fascinating textures and fine finishes can be produced. This book provides a systematic overview of the variety of applications for such concrete elements throughout Europe. Author David Bennett provides in-depth information on newly developed, especially lightweight forms of concrete such as GRC (Glass-Fibre Reinforced Concrete), Ductal and CRC (Compact Reinforced Composite). A selection of some 24 projects which are of particular significance, are documented in detail and provide a wealth of inspiring design ideas. The appendix comprises an overview of the building practices in the individual European countries and the availability of concrete elements. Amongst the buildings documented are the Scottish Parliament Building in Edinburgh by Enric Miralles Benedetta Tagliabue, the Synagogue in Dresden by Wandel, Hoefer, Lorch + Hirsch, and the Mexican Embassy in Berlin by González de León.

Donald G. Firesmith, Peter Capell, Charles B. Hammons, DeWitt Latimer, Tom Merendino

Auerbach Publications | 2008-11-20 | ISBN: 1420085751 | 512 pages | PDF | 3,7 MB

The architects of today’s large and complex systems all too often struggle with the lack of a consistent set of principles and practices that adequately address the entire breadth of systems architecture. The Method Framework for Engineering System Architectures (MFESA) enables system architects and process engineers to create methods for effectively and efficiently engineering high-quality architecture for systems, subsystems, and software components.

Meets the Needs of Specific Projects

The book begins by documenting the common challenges that must be addressed by system architecture engineering. It explores the major principles answering these challenges and forming the basis of MFESA. Next, the authors introduce MFESA, including its primary goals, inputs, tasks, outputs, and assumptions. Then they describe the fundamental concepts and terminology on which the systems architecture engineering is founded. This is followed by a description of each of the ten system architecture engineering tasks including associated goals and objectives, preconditions, inputs, steps, postconditions, work products, guidelines, and pitfalls.

Finally, the book documents the relationship between quality and architecture, explains the quality model underlying MFESA, and provides a summary of MFESA method framework, as well as a list of points to remember and future directions planned for MFESA.

Explains Specific Rationales

Organized as a handy desk reference, this book harnesses more than 100 years of the authors’ combined professional experience to provide extensive guidelines, best practices, and tips on avoiding possible pitfalls. It presents a direct rationale of why steps are taken, how things can go wrong, and guidance for how and when to tailor the model for a system’s specific context.

Structural Analysis: Civil Engineering Course Material

Structural Analysis: Civil Engineering Course Material from IIT Kharagpur, cover structural analysis, in seven modules / 40 lessons.

IIT Kharagpur | English | 2008 | ISBN: N/A | 737 Pages | PDF | 13,6 Mb

Structural analysis and design is a very old art and is known to human beings since early civilizations. The Pyramids constructed by Egyptians around 2000 B.C. stands today as the testimony to the skills of master builders of that civilization. Many early civilizations produced great builders, skilled craftsmen who constructed magnificent buildings such as the Parthenon at Athens (2500 years old), the great Stupa at Sanchi (2000 years old), Taj Mahal (350 years old), Eiffel Tower (120 years old) and many more buildings around the world. These monuments tell us about the great feats accomplished by these craftsmen in analysis, design and construction of large structures. Today we see around us countless houses, bridges, fly-overs, high-rise buildings and spacious shopping malls. Planning, analysis and construction of these buildings is a science by itself. The main purpose of any structure is to support the loads coming on it by properly transferring them to the foundation. Even animals and trees could be treated as structures. Indeed biomechanics is a branch of mechanics, which concerns with the working of skeleton and muscular structures. In the early periods houses were constructed along the riverbanks using the locally available material. They were designed to withstand rain and moderate wind. Today structures are designed to withstand earthquakes, tsunamis, cyclones and blast loadings. Aircraft structures are designed for more complex aerodynamic loadings. These have been made possible with the advances in structural engineering and a revolution in electronic computation in the past 50 years. The construction material industry has also undergone a revolution in the last four decades resulting in new materials having more strength and stiffness than the traditional construction material. In this book we are mainly concerned with the analysis of framed structures (beam, plane truss, space truss, plane frame, space frame and grid), arches, cables and suspension bridges subjected to static loads only.”

Bryan Stafford Smith, Alex Coull, “Tall Building Structures: Analysis and Design”

Wiley-Interscience; 1 edition (January 1, 1991) | ISBN: 0471512370 | 537 pages | PDF | 34,4 Mb

Examines structural aspects of high rise buildings, particularly fundamental approaches to the analysis of the behavior of different forms of building structures including frame, shear wall, tubular, core and outrigger-braced systems. Introductory chapters discuss the forces to which the structure is subjected, design criteria which are of the greatest relevance to tall buildings, and various structural forms which have developed over the years since the first skyscrapers were built at the turn of the century. A major chapter is devoted to the modeling of real structures for both preliminary and final analyses. Considerable attention is devoted to the assessment of the stability of the structure, and the significance of creep and shrinkage is discussed. A final chapter is devoted to the dynamic response of structures subjected to wind and earthquake forces. Includes both accurate computer-based and approximate methods of analysis.

Andrew Charleson, “Structure as Architecture: A Source Book for Architects and Structural Engineers”

Architectural Press | 2005-08-19 | ISBN:0750665270 | 256 pages | PDF | 7,4 Mb

Structure As Architecture provides readers with an accessible insight into the relationship between structure and architecture, focusing on the design principles that relate to both fields. Over one hundred case studies of contemporary buildings from countries across the globe including the UK, the US, France, Germany, Spain, Hong Kong and Australia are interspersed throughout the book. The author has visited and photographed each of these examples and analyzed them to show how structure plays a significant architectural role, as well as bearing loads. This is a highly illustrated sourcebook, providing a new insight into the role of structure, and discussing the point where the technical and the aesthetic meet to create the discipline of architecture.

* Presents a comprehensive analysis of how building structure contributes to architecture
* Connects architectural design ideas and structure in the context of contemporary architecture, materials and structure
* Highly illustrated, providing a sourcebook of architectural and engineering design ideas
